How to get O’Reilly Learning for $99 or less?

O’Reilly learning, formely known as Safari Books Online, is an online platform with vast array of technical content: over 40,000 books, video courses, live training, and other valuable materials. I’ve been using the service since my first job where my company purchased company-wide access. Last year I started my video series for it, making recommendation on new books.

The platform offers 7day free trial, but honestly the $49/month (or $499/year) plan is a bit too pricy for individual learner.

There’s indeed another way, and it’s through joining ACM: Association for Computing Machinery. If you work on the data analytics/mining field like me, you probably heard of ACM before. As clearly stated on the website here, joining ACM will grant you access to the learning platform, as well as discount for its popular conferences.

Now let’s visit https://www.acm.org/membership/join, and you will see two major plans: professional and students. These plans also offer special rates for economically developing countries.

Professional membership: $99/ year

Special rates for Professionals in economically developing countries (Check to see if your country is on the list. $25/year for China residents)

Student membership: $19/year

You can visit https://www.acm.org/membership/membership-benefits to check on many other amazing benefits provided by joining ACM.

Once you joined, you will have an email address like pengbookclub@acm.org and this will be your login userid for O’Reilly. Go to the O’Reilly learning log-in page, once you finished typing your acm address, it will trigger the ‘sign in with single sign on’
